The threat sacrifices a piece to decoy a black pawn which would otherwise have been a hurdle over which the black LE could defend against the mate on d6. Black defends by defending d6 over other black pawns, which are duly decoyed away leading to the same mate on d6. It is a shame that there is only one mating move, but that is the whole idea!
